It is never too late to learn new things and discover some skills. If you are passionate about learning more on the Filipino language and writing system, Baybayin is the one for you.
What is Baybayin?
According to Bayani Art, Baybayin (incorrectly known as Alibata) is "a pre-Filipino writing system in the Philippines on which the symbols are derived from the art of nature. It has been the soul interconnectivity of our ancestors through writing. To spell; rooted from the word Baybay, our ancestors used our very own writing script to sign documents, write poetries, communicate, and write letters to one another. It was a form of communication that we once utilized in our every day lives and was very well respected by the explorers who came to our islands."
The characters of Baybayin are symbolic enough to represent the culture and tradition of the Philippines that's why most people said that Baybayin is easy to learn.
For faster learning, you can also download a Babayin keyboard on your mobile phones. For Android phones, just go to Google Play Store and search for "Baybayin SMS" and install it. For Apple users, go to the Apple Store, just search for "Baybayin Keyboard" and then click install.
For beginners, the app has a specialized keyboard named as "Baguhan" (Beginner) in which contains the basic characters of Baybayin plus the letters in the alphabet. If you already have enough knowledge in Baybayin, there's also a "Dalubhasa" (Advanced) category in the application to test your speed and flexibility in writing Baybayin.
